After his time in office as the last president of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev became an international pop culture icon. He appeared in television adverts for Pizza Hut and Austrian rail. Caricatures of Gorbachev were also often used in shows like The Simpsons and Spitting Image, alongside the likes of George HW Bush and Ronald Reagan. The former Soviet leader died in Moscow aged 91.
